 Call For Nominations

Nominations for the Executive Council of the New York State Conference of the AAUP are now open. The following offices are open:

• President (2-year term)

• Secretary (4-year term)

• Treasurer (4-year term)

• Delegate-at-Large (2-year term)

• Delegate-at-Large (4-year term)

• Delegate-at-large (4-year term)

The differing term lengths are a result of resignations and temporary appointments. If you intend to run for a Delegate-at-Large position, you MUST specify whether you are running for a 2-year or 4-year term.

Candidate Nomination Requirements
All nominations must include either statements with signatures or be in email form.  Include your own name and institutional affiliation.  All nominations must be sent to the chair of the Election Committee and those by email must include the word "Nomination" in the subject line. In order to be a candidate, a nominee must have a minimum of six nominations from members of the Conference representing at least two chapters or institutions. Retired members in good standing may also submit nominations. Candidates receiving a nomination will be contacted by the Election Committee to verify their willingness to stand for election. The Election Committee will report periodically to the Executive Director on the progress of the nomination process.

Candidate Eligibility
All AAUP members, except Associate members, living full time in or working in higher education in New York state who are qualified to vote in the national AAUP election and who have been AAUP members in good standing as of July 1, 2016 are qualified to run for elected office. A member of NYS Conference cannot be a member of another conference.

Nomination Deadline
Because the NYS Conference election will be held concurrently with the national AAUP election, all nomination materials (including the six required nominations (endorsements) of members from at least two different NYS chapters), must be received NO LATER than December 1, 2017.

Candidate Statements
All candidate statements and biographical information must be submitted along with the nominations so that they may be published in the next edition of NY Academe and forwarded to National AAUP for inclusion in the ballots. Combined biographies and statements shall not exceed 500 words.

Where To Submit Nominations and Candidate Statements
Nominations, and combined biographies and statements, should be sent to Irwin Yellowitz, 118 Alpine Drive, Closter, NJ 07624, or by e-mail to iyellowitz@aol.com
